Don’t like the colors offered in Excel’s default color palette? Here’s how to change them.
How to change Excel’s color Palette:
1. Open a new or existing Excel spreadsheet.
2. Go to the Tools menu and click Options, then the Color Tab.
3. Click on the color you want to change and then click Modify.
4. Choose the color your want from the standard color selection and click on it, then click ok.
5. If you want to further modify the selected standard color click the Custom Tab and move the slider to the shade you want and click ok.
If you copy and paste cells with custom colors to another spreadsheet the color will revert to the corresponding color in the spreadsheet you are pasting into.
To add a custom palette to existing workbooks:
You will need to copy the new color palette to another workbook, here’s how:
1. Open a spreadsheet with your custom palette and the spreadsheet you want to copy the palette to. Be sure that both documents are open in the same window, not two separate windows.
2. Toggle to the spreadsheet you want to move the colors into, go to the Tools menu and click Options, then on the Color tab.
3. In the Copy Colors From box, click the spreadsheet with the custom colors and then click ok.
To create a new spreadsheet with custom colors:
1. Create a new spreadsheet with custom colors and save it as “Excel Colors”.
2. Open your “Excel Colors” spreadsheet and do a save as (File>Save As) and name your new document, and your new spreadsheet will have your custom colors!
To restore your spreadsheet to Excel’s default color palette, click the Reset Button in the Color Tab.
